Post Thanksgiving Christmas

So since it's after thanksgiving, it's officially socially acceptable to start wearing Christmas attire, right? Well I guess I had a little bit of an excuse to wear my festive fashions, since it was the Festival of Lights in downtown Turlock. Even though it was freezing, it was great family fun. I think hardly anyone saw my sweater since I was wrapped up in my winter coat. On top of that, I was carrying my dog, Kippy, on a front pack. (Photo below). BUT, this little Christmas sweater will get ALOT of wear this season. :)

Thanksgiving 2015

Happy thanksgiving!
I'm sure you've heard that a lot by now, but I still needed to say it anyways! :D After all, there's a lot to be thankful for, not just today, but everyday. This is probably going to sound a little cliché, but if you're breathing, you're still alive, and you still have a purpose. Today is the day to remember how blessed we are. Whether you are healthy or sick, rich or poor, employed or unemployed, there is ALWAYS a reason to be thankful for. I'm sure you can all find at least one reason, not just today, but everyday. :)

So today, my family and I were going to Nordstrom, but silly me didn't check to see if they were open. So, we ended up leaving the mall and trying to find an open restaurant since we were all starving. We drove around a good half hour, until we found a Japanese restaurant, which turned out amazingly good. In the end it all worked out for the best. :)

"Nature Stroll" Draped Tunic // "Draped Circle" Tutorial

The sleeves on this tunic reminded me of leaves and nature, hence the name "Nature Stroll." I had so much fun making this top and absolutely loved how it came out. I played around with my technique from last refashion ( here) and then added on some lace to bring it all together. I actually took photos of the process, yet they ended up getting deleted somehow, so I drew a tutorial  here and I explained everything I did for this top.

"FALL-ing in Love" // Couples Fashion Fall Edition

This is our second couples' fashion shoot. The first one was so much fun, we HAD to do another one. I believe this will be our thing now LOL. It's so much fun going out, picking out our outfits, and finding the right location. I wanted to share our couples' outfits to show others that matching couples' fashion doesn't have to be corny. Also, it is a fun way to record these memories on my blog. I have set up a link on my homepage to all the couples' fashion posts, so my original style diary posts wouldn't get crowded.

How to Make a Sweater With an Irregular Circle Hem

This sweater was inspired by one I had seen at a local boutique. It had a very cool circular hem and just looked downright adorable. I started off using this striped top and some sweater lace fabric I had gotten at FIDM awhile back. Funny thing, I had originally planned to make a circular hem, but since I didn't fold my fabric into a perfect square, it came out asymmetrical LOL. I don't know what I was thinking when making the circle part out of a rectangle I folded. I ended up liking the hem better than a circular hem to be honest. :)

1. I chopped off the top part of the soon to be sweater.

2. I folded my fabric for the bottom portion as shown. One fold down first, then one fold to the left. To get that asymmetrical hem, I folded my fabric as a rectangle, rather than a circle.

3. I cut through 4 layers of fabric.

4. Notice how the top side is shorter than the right side of the now "circle." This is so you can get that cool asymmetrical hem at the end. :)

The circle that I pointed out in the photo has to do with the chop I made in Step 1. I just kept cutting until it fit the top part of the soon to be sweater. See the next step so it all makes more sense. :)

5. See? And this is how I sewed the lace to the top part. The right sides of the fabrics should be facing each other.

TA DA!

"Autumn Walk Downtown"

Today was a great fall day. I walked around downtown Turlock with my family, and the weather was just perfect. It was the right mixture of sunny and chilly. Sometimes it's just great to walk around town, nowhere specific, but just to explore around. It's especially nice to do so around the fall season, with crisp falling leaves surrounding you. Okay, now I feel like I'm getting to poetic LOL. :)
